Expedition Amundsen 2017

Over 100 competitors will attempt Expedition Amundsen in 2017! Starting on the 2nd March the competitors will cross from Haukeliseter to Maurset in Eidfjord, Norway. Taking on the back-country skiing challenge, competitors are broken into two classes, solo skiers and teams, both classes will tow their 40kg sledges 100Km across the arctic conditions of Norway's largest national park, Hardangervidda.
Named after Roald Amundsen, the Norweigan explorer and first person to lead a successful expedition to the South Pole, the competitors will be re-creating the trip attempted by Amundsen and his brother twice in 1893 and 1896 - a trip that would provide the inspiration to train for and win the race to the South Pole.
Over three days, the teams will pass through three checkpoints and must take at least 8 hours rest at each one. In their sledges, the teams are required to be completely self-sufficient, from their arctic condition tent and sleeping bags to their gasoline powered stove and dehydrated meals everything to survive must me carried with them.
Not for the faint-hearted, the skiers will face sub-zero temperatures and the tumultuous weather of the Norwegian winter while self-supporting their three-day ski expedition. The race start on the 2nd March and take place until the cut off time 72 hours later on the 5th March!
