Rolex Sydney to Hobart 2018
- January 07, 2019
What started out as an idea for a casual cruise from Sydney to Hobart, quickly turned into a full-scale racing event, attracting thousands of sailors from all over the world since the inaugural race in 1945.
Since that first race, the Rolex Sydney to Hobart has grown from strength to strength and is an irresistible challenge to sailors eager to participate in one of the worlds most highly esteemed offshore sailing events.
This year saw 85 boats, measuring between 30ft and 100ft, attempt to sail the 628 nautical mile course following the rhumb line, the most direct line between Sydney and Hobart. It was a heated battle to see who would cross the line first, with Wild Oats XI coming out on top for a record 9th time and Blackjack and Comanche coming in a close 2nd and 3rd respectively (with 1 minute and 3 seconds separating the two!).
