ORCV Melbourne to Port Fairy 2014

Traditionally held over the Easter holiday, the Melbourne to the historic and picturesque western district town of Port Fairy is the longest of the three coastal races conducted by the ORCV. The 2014 race will commence on the 18th April.
The 135 nautical mile course is often a race in two parts as it first takes competing yachts south-westwards past the coastal resorts of Torquay, Anglesea, Lorne and Apollo Bay before rounding the rugged Cape Otway where it is usually possible to ease sheets for a reach or run to the finish line.
All weather berthing is available in the Moyne River except for deep draft yachts, which can anchor in the sheltered Bay. Excellent hospitality and meals are provided by the Port Fairy Yacht Club at the completion of the race.
Each yacht will be supplied with a YBtracker to stow onboard. The trackers wake up every thirty minutes to collect and transmit data. Several items will be transmitted including GPS co-ordinates, speed and direction to name a few. All the information is sent to YB HQ through the Iridium satellite network and is finally visualised on our race tracker which is updated continuously. This means supporters, friends and loved ones at home can follow the race easily.
